How To @ Liberty Hall

Use Our Forum Software

The SimplePress (the engine that runs our forums) manual is not complete, so I'll post some info here.

Disable Email Notification

To disable email notification of updated pages or subscribed topics, go to the user profile for Word Press (at the very top of the page). This preference is not available as an option in the user profile for the forums (Simple Press).

Create a Poll

Steps to create a poll in a post.

  1. Log in to the blog (not the forums) as an admin
  2. Select “Polls” in the left sidebar (bottom)
  3. Select “Add Poll” in the left sidebar
  4. Add the Poll Questions
  5. Make sure that Allow Users to Select More Than One Answer is “No”
  6. Set the Poll Start and End dates
  7. Select “Add Poll”

Now go to “Posts” in the left sidebar

  1. Select “Add New”
  2. Create a short title
  3. Select the appropriate Category
  4. Place the following shortcode into the Post textbox:
  • To embed a specific poll in your post, use [poll id=“2”] where 2 is your poll id.
  • Add whatever other text you want and save the post.

Also see the WP-Polls plugin documentation page.

Post to the Blog Correctly

As a registered member of Liberty Hall, you are given “EDITOR” status. That means you can post to the Blog without my approval.

When you log in, you will first see the “Author Dashboard”, which is a subset of the Editor and Admin Dashboards. On the left hand side, you'll see the option to “Add New”. When you select that link, the screen will go into an “edit post” page where you can create and Save (as a draft) and Publish your post.

When you have entered your Subject and content of the post, please also select one of the Categories as well. If there's no Category that fits, post anyway and ask me to add a new Category.
